Match the angel stone and roof

Question

Melissa asks:

Hello, We are planning on putting all new soffit, fascia, eaves, downspouts and siding on our home, plus a new front door. Can you please give us some suggestions for colours for these and what style of siding that would match the angel stone and roof? We are also planning on painting the brick a medium smokey grey colour. For the soffit and fascia we were thinking of the colour Sable and the siding we weren’t too sure. Windswept smoke maybe? Also the windows will stay the colour white. What colour door would you suggest, we were thinking of a solid wood dark brown barn style door. Any help would be appreciated!

Answer

I like the ideas of Windswept Smoke in a vertical siding like Board and Batten to create a different look. As for the soffit, fascia and eavestrough, I like Sable, but I would also consider Pebble to bring the grey and the stone together.  Either would look good.  As for the door, I like the brown but I would not go too brown, maybe something like Gentek’s Dark Drift or Saddle Brown.

Can’t decide on colour

Question

Gosia asks:

We need to replace rainspouts, fascia and soffit. Can’t decide on colour. Should we use one colour for all three or get soffit a shade lighter then fascia and rainspouts? Roof needs to be replaced as well.

Answer

I would keep the soffit, fascia and eavestrough on your home all the same colour and my suggestion would be the colour closest to the colour of the siding on your home.  I think Pebble might be close.  If you having a hard time finding a colour that is close, try Gentek’s Sable colour, in has both brown and grey and greenish tones in it that would look good with the brick and siding colour.

Color and style for the side door of my house.

Question

Tracie asks:
Need to know the best color and style for the side door of my house. Please note we had it commercial brown (like trim in windows) but because it is exposed to full sun it fades and causes the weatherstripping and seals to crack and warp. Also I am planning to add accent stone to the bottom half of the house if you have any suggestions of color/style that would be appreciated. I already have my quote for the garden doors. It is very secluded where I live and I would like to have clear windows but would like to block out the heat any suggestions here.

Answer

For the side door, you could try a colour like Pebble. It fits in with the brown of the home, but is not too dark and should not fall to the effects of the direct sun.  As well, when picking stone, I would pick a version that has both some browns and some greys in it as well lighten the look of the home.    As for your windows, if you do not want to tint them just install some window treatments like blinds to help keep out the heat of the sun.  If you are buying Energy Star rated windows, like Gentek’s Regency line, you can get glass packages that will help keep the cool/heat in the home and cool/heat from outside, outside the home.  Inquire with your installer about the best glass package for your home.

Building a new house in 2017

Question

Holly
We are building a new house in 2017. For the rear walkout we want to use gentek double 4.5 Dutch horizontal in the coastal blue-change it up on the upper walls and use coastal blue in the board and batten profile and do a complimentary vinyl shake in all the gable ends. Windows and doors will be white. The question is what colour should we use for the gable shakes as well as the soffit, fascia and trough to compliment.

Answer

If you like a more monotone look you could go with Gentek’s Rockwell blue in the gable to give it some depth with a darker colour.  If you would like a contrast look, you could try Gentek’s Monterey Sand in the gables and then go white for the soffit, fascia and eaves to bring it all together.

Board and batten style

Question

Morgan asks

Hi We are looking for a true medium Gray board and batten style vinyl siding for the two story addition being built in the picture. Any advice for the roof shingles to compliment the vinyl and brick sidings would be greatly appreciated.

Answer

If you are looking for a medium grey tone why not try Gentek’s Storm colour, which is available in the Board and Batten profile you desire. For the roof, I would then go with a dark grey or black colour to create some contrast.

Longboard

Question

Daryl asks
I will do a dark charcoal roof and eaves. Want to leave the red brick. Change the facade below the porch roof and below the porch. Was thinking of charcoal framed windows and clear red cedar siding that looks like planks. Saw a metal application instead of wood and wondered if you are the source (photo 3). But open to other suggestions. Thanks!

Answer

The product in your 3rd photo is a product called Longboard. It is an aluminum product that create the look of wood.  Very nice, modern looking product.  The charcoal framed windows would look great with one of Longboards darker colours like Dark Walnut for Table Walnut.   You can see the Longboard colours here:  http://longboardcladding.com/longboard-wood-grain-colours/

Remove all the window shutters and have chosen Storm siding

Question

Jana asks:

We have decided to remove all the window shutters and have chosen Storm siding. I can’t decide which of the GenStone colours would look best or what color to choose for eaves & fascia. The stone will go on both sides of the garage door up about 44″ and on the front porch, we are building up the posts to be 10×10 and using the stone on the bottom half. Our windows will be white and our soffit is white also.

Answer

For the GenStone, I would suggest Iron Ore as the colour but if you feel that is too dark, I might suggest Keystone that has some grey tones in it to give you a lighter look.  As for the fascia, I would go with white as you are with the soffit.

Changing the soffit, fascia and eavestrough

Question

Darren asks:

I recently bought a house and am planning on changing the soffit, fascia and eavestrough. I was thinking of going with Gentek’s slate, for the colour, but I have a brown roof which is new as of 2013 so I will not be changing that anytime soon. Do you think the colours will not go together very well?

Darren 1

Answer

My first choice for your eaves would be Sable as it has both grey and brown tones in it. It would bring together the brick and roof tones as well.
