Colours for roof and trim

Question:

Pauline asks:

Hello, we are changing our roof and trim (just the fascia and eavestroughs…. the soffits are white and will be staying). We are trying to decide between Timberline Canadian Driftwood or Charcoal. My question… which colour should we do and what colour should we do the fascia and eaves? Should the garage door and shutters match the trim or the roof? We have just painted the shutters and garage, trying to get rid of brown, but we are open to changing them again…. Thanks so much.

Pauline

Answer:

I would chose the Driftwood colour and then Pebble or Sable for your fascia and eavestrough. These are both neutral colours and they will blend well with the other colours on your home.

Question:

Amanda asks:

Hi! I have a Canadiana with a field stone front, brown brick on the other three sides, and siding on the ends of the gables. We’re redoing the roof, siding, eves, sofit and fascia and I’m not sure what colours to go with. I was thinking of a grey-blue or grey-green for the siding (something to contrast the brick but tie into the stone), and a neutral (preferably not white) for all of the trim. I’m thinking of driftwood or brown stone for the roof (http://bpcan.com/en-CA/products/residential-roofing/asphalt-roofing-shingles/architect-collection/everest-42-east-only-/ 4 and 5 from the right). Any suggestions?

Amanda

Answer:

My suggestion for your siding would be to go with Gentek’s Dark Drift colour. The dark brown bricks are very dominate an you need to pick something that will blend well with them. I suggest Dark Drift because it is darker and richer looking than the cream colour you have there currently and will blend well with the stone and either of the roof colours you are considering. Either the Driftwood or BrownStone will work with this home. I lean toward the Driftwood. I would use Dark Drift for the soffit, fascia and eaves that you are replacing as well. This would tie together all of the other parts of the home and give it a cohesive look.

Replacing our windows and doors

Question:

Barra asks:

We are getting our windows and doors replaced and are also getting vertical Driftwood siding between the bay windows.  The windows will be white and we have chosen Storm for the siding, shutters and front door.  I\’m having a hard time deciding whether this is the way to go or whether another colour would look better on the house, such as Canyon Clay.  Would it be possible to see what each colour would look like and if you could suggest a colour that would complement the brick colour, that would be appreciated?  The roof is brown and the soffits are a light ivory.  I am looking to have a more updated look to the house.

Many thanks.

Question 3 - B

Answer:

I like the idea of using Storm with your brick, but if you are not going to change the colour of your eavestrough and other trims, I am not sure Storm is the way to go.  If you are not going to change these items, I would stick with Canyon Clay or Wicker.

As for the type of siding you are going to use between the windows, I would suggest that you try a vertical profile instead of horizontal. I think the vertical siding would tie the windows together better than the horizontal.

Good, Better, Best: The Price Difference Might Surprise You

Gentek doesn’t sell any product that’s less than ‘good’ – in terms of performance, durability and eye appeal. But as with anything, there are good, better and best products to choose from, based on individual needs, desires and budget. What might be surprising is that the price difference between good, better and best isn’t that much. In fact, using the example of vinyl siding, the price difference between ‘good’ and ‘better’ Gentek products is just 8%. The difference between ‘good’ and ‘best’ is 16%. Gentek stands behind all of these products and sells them with pride. But since your home is your castle, we just want you to know that better and best may not be beyond your reach.
